About Music Magic
Program Features
How it Works
System Requirements
Music Magic was designed to help the Professional DJ cope with his/her dynamically changing database of songs. The idea originated when I saw the effort it took for my son (a DJ) to maintain his song lists, keep backup copies and haul his heavy CD cases to a client for previewing music. As soon as he got a new CD the paper copies of his songs were obsolete.
The program stores songs in numerical order. For the seasoned DJ who prefers to store his songs by Categories (yes, I mean you Mike and Mark), the program will store songs numerically within a Category. The user defines the categories. If you prefer not to use categories, the program can accommodate that as well. Or the program will allow you to combine both practices.
Have your favorite HOT songs. The program allows the user to set songs as HOT. These can be selected or deselected at any time by the user.
Music Magic started as a MP3 database system and has grown into a CD CDA, MP3 database system.
The program does not physically have to store the songs to use most of its features.
The program stores songs in directories (CD directories) that it numbers sequentially (CD-0001). Into each CD directory, it will place up to either 74 or 80 minutes of music. This is to conform to the current commercial CD lengths.
If the music is stored on the computer in these directories as MP3 files, the program can play the songs, individually or as a Playlist that will loop continuously.

How The Program Works
The program is versatile enough that it can accommodate the DJ just starting out or the DJ who already has a well-established CD collection.
The program loads and tracks your CD's by a CD number. The program starts with 0001 and continues consecutively.
If you want to sort your CDs by Category the program numbers each CD in each Category numerically starting with 0001. the Jewelcase printout as well as the CD label will indicate the CD Number and Category.
If you are loading MP3 files, the program will assign a new CD number every 74 or 80 minutes of music time. The length is determined by the time you select on the MP3 Database Loading screen.
If you are loading CDA or WAV file CD's the program will assign a new CD number for every CD you load. The actual files will NOT be moved or copied.
It is NOT NECESSARY to keep the MP3 files on your computer. The computer must be allowed to copy or move these when you are loading them into the database. Once they are loaded, the files can then be erased from the database. WARNING, if you operate the program this way, make sure you have selected Copy Files to New Directory. Erased files cannot be recovered. To delete files; use the ReName MP3 Files screen (select Move and/or Modify MP3 Files from the Program Selection screen).
If you want to play the MP3 files from the Database and Playlist screen, you must let the program store the MP3 files in the CD-XXXX directories the program develops.
For people who already have a CD collection it is difficult for them to change. With the program you do NOT have to…..
The program will use the Category field to keep your CD's sorted. When loading a CD into the database, use the Category field to enter your music category. The term Category has no real meaning to the program. Every time you enter a new Category it is added to the Category list and remembered by the program. The program will still number the CD's sequentially, but within each Category. In the Database and Playlist window the Category is listed and can be used for sorting. If using MP3's the program will generate sub-directories using the category name.
The Genre list is totally editable. Can't find the Genre you want? Just type it in and the program will add it to its list.
